Sulfuric acid

SULFURIC UNIT

The sulfuric acid  production is made in a special unit called : Sulfuric acid Units.

The industrual sulfuric acid production, is carried out according to three chemical reactions ..:
  1. The combustion
  2. The conversion
  3. The absorption
Each reaction takes place in its own equipment specially conceived for it ..
  • The combustion :
The combustion reaction : S + O2 =  SO2 + 70,9 Kcal/mol
It's occurs in a sulfur burner. The sulfur is previously melted and filtered in a special units designed for that, which deliver a very clear product : the liquid sulfur.
Sulfur must meet very stringent requirements because if the sulfur is not pure and is not well filtered, that will plug the nozzles of burner pipes (Fig. 1) which will reduce the efficiency of combustion.
So, to have a better combustion in the burner, we need a better rate sulfur / air, and since the air is stable (from the fan), we must always ensure that the burner are not clogged by ash.
